The story behind Evie's prints
Talented New Zealand artist, Evie Kemp, teamed up with our friends at Dulux to paint a bespoke mural for our shelter, showcasing the animals we care for. As part of this project, Evie also created 300 limited edition prints to help raise crucial funds so we can help more pets and their families escape abuse sooner.

To Love a Dog
To Love a Dog is a memoir based on the author's lived experience of domestic violence involving pets.
Author Margaret Mathieson's deep compassion for pets used as weapons in domestic violence, led her to share her story in the hope it will create awareness of what happens to so many victims.

About Pet Refuge
It’s easier for people to leave domestic violence when they know their pets are safe.
Pet Refuge provides temporary shelter for pets from around New Zealand affected by domestic violence, keeping them safe while their owners escape abuse.

About Evie Kemp
Evie began her career designing prints and homewares. Her artworks can be found in thousands of homes worldwide and have been featured in numerous magazines. Over the years, Evie has increasingly showcased her passion for applying unique and bold design to all aspects of life, and has recently redirected her business to accommodate this changing focus, making a return to textile design, as well as larger and more exclusive creative projects.
Evie lives in Auckland with her husband Sam, dogs Pebbles and Biggie, and cat Eddie. She can be found scouring op shops for vintage ceramics, and over-sharing on Instagram.
Special thanks to our partner Dulux® for their support and help in making our shelter a more colourful place.
